De CPDP conferentie brengt ieder jaar een keur van juristen, politici, bedrijven, organisaties en academici naar Brussel voor discussies rond thema’s als privacy en databescherming. De conferentie is ondertussen een vaste waarde geworden met internationale uitstraling. Een must voor iedereen die wil mee praten en discussiëren over de actuele thema’s (en die het zich financieel kan permitteren, want de prijs voor deelname blijft een harde noot om kraken voor wie niet uit de academische wereld komt).
The overarching theme of the 2020 edition is “Data Protection and Artificial Intelligence”. CPDP thus takes as its focus one of the most powerful technologies of the century. Investment and work on AI are accelerating at an unprecedented rate. In parallel, governments are moving to introduce regulation. What complications does AI add to the already fraught terrain of digital rights? Is the GDPR the panacea for all the legal issues arising in the age of AI? How meaningful is the concept of personal data in the face of systems which use hidden logic in identifying trends and behaviors? Are we ready for the application of AI in crime prevention? How can we best address the issues of social justice implicated by AI? Is AI the right framework to discuss the challenges of data-driven technologies? CPDP2020 will serve as a platform to discuss, and seek answers, to these questions and many more.
