Hito Steyerl is een Duitse beeldend kunstenaar, essayist en filmmaker. Haar werk bestaat vooral uit essayistische videowerken, waarin tekst vaak een belangrijke rol speelt. Een centraal thema is de invloed van (digitale) technologie en het internet op het dagelijks leven.
Met How Not to Be Seen. A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File presenteert Steyerl een "educatieve" video waarin ze puntsgewijs aanleert hoe we in dit tijdperk van alomtegenwoordige surveillance toch kunnen verdwijnen.De concrete voorbeelden zijn met een stevige korrel zout te nemen, maar de boodschap is wel ernstig.
